• <H4> This organization was started because of a passion that was ignited in our founder Stephanie Smith to help young ladies and women who were also struggling with the repercussions of having lupus. This passion also birthed the organization called The Beautifies Foundation Inc. Our purpose is to empower women of all walks of life to help them find inner beauty while dealing with a chronic illness.

• <H4> Stephanie Smith was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematous in 2001 when she was 19 years old. At the time she was a sophomore in college in Tennessee and was not able to return that semester. Given the grim statistics of Lupus diagnosis she was fortunate enough to have a friend Edwanda Brown who had been diagnosed several years prior, who was of great assistance to her and her mother regarding what to expect and resources in which she would benefit.
• <H4> Over the years Stephanie loss massive amounts of hair and found it a challenge to find an organization that assisted with lupus patients with cosmetic needs such as wigs, dental work, skin care or medication associated with having this disease.
• <H4> The diagnoses of Lupus can be very overwhelming for an individual and their family. Patients from all over the United States have been in contact with hopes to be educated and uplifted after their diagnoses of lupus. Many of these patients are depressed due to the change of appearance that is often caused by lupus, medications that are associated with the disease or other diseases that lupus causes such as; skin liaisons, hair loss, rashes, ulcers and nodules under the skin to name a few. With addition to physical challenges there are many financial strains such as multiple doctors’ visits, specialist of all sorts, medication and various medical procedures and test with the addition of trying to remain a whole person mentally and physically the added burden of hair loss often times becomes a huge challenge.

• <H4> Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that affects many parts of the body such as organs, joints, skin. There are over 1.5 million people today in the United States of America affected by lupus. There are over thousands of new lupus diagnoses daily. Lupus is a disease that both women and men can have. Women in their childbearing years are most often diagnosed with lupus. Although, people from all races can be diagnosed with lupus, lupus is two to three times more likely to develop in minority women. Lupus has many different symptoms which can vary from person to person these symptoms may include; Joint pain and stiffness, with or without swelling, fatigue, Fever, Unusual weight gain or loss, anemia, skin rashes, chest pain, memory problems, confusing, cognitive issues, kidney problems, muscle weakness, pains or aches, sun and/or light sensitivity, hair loss, purple fingers or toes from cold or stress, headaches, dizzy spells, depression, and seizures.
